GRAN MARE
GRAN MARE by Alexandre Christiaens and Valentino Barachini
Gran Mare by Alexandre Christiaens and Valentino Barachini
“You photograph the waves to preserve the memory of their words.” — Christiaens
“Oh
great
sea!
you create the one
I sang about in the beginning
oh!, horizon of eyes and flights
of seagulls and blazing suns!
place of passage of the celestial of the ever-flat
fortunate encounter of storms
of salty waves and moons
full that set free
flow away.
and I die
I” — Barachini
These are the words the two photographers used to summarize their work: a series of photographs taken in very distant places. Barachini has been photographing the Tyrrhenian Sea in front of his home in Tuscany for years with large-format cameras, while Christiaens captures the oceans he encounters while sailing.
Closed format: 26 × 38 cm
Edition of 100 copies, of which 20 Deluxe Edition copies include a printed and signed photograph by each author
Numbered and signed by the authors
Printed in Livorno, October 2025
