HOTEL KRANEPOOL by Matthew Licht
Hotel Kranepool was born from a fascination with Raymond Pettibon’s drawings and his subversive vision of American history, and from a playful curiosity about baseball, the sport that embodies some of the country’s most iconic qualities and captivates the artist.
Hotels are spaces of fleeting pleasures, restless nights, or hidden intrigues. They also serve as a metaphor for human presence on Earth.
Hotel Kranepool imagines a metaphysical digital universe in which to get lost. Enrico Bertelli once envisioned Kranepool as a miniature black Dracula-like castle, a stack of rectangular coffins.
For this edition, each episode appears as an accordion-style booklet, made by Valentino Barachini, creating a tactile and immersive way to experience the stories and photographic collages.
Matthew Licht has long dreamed of spending his golden years in a luxurious hotel, perhaps in the legendary Suite 251, as a former literary idol once did. So far, no bestseller has made it possible—so help him: get your copy of Hotel Kranepool.
The work comprises eight stories and photographic collages, each presented in accordion-style booklets, housed in a signed and numbered black PVC box.
Closed format: 23 × 32 cm
