FOR A NEW BODY
FOR A NEW BODY by Ruben Barachini and Massimiliano Barachini
“Evanescent voids pass by to seek will”
— Ruben Barachini
A book about the body—not as a machine, nor merely as a map of functions, but as a living anatomy that is simultaneously new and old, inhabiting a linear and perpetual time, representing the production of new qualities of perception, feelings, and moods.
A body whose aging may carry good news, an adaptive quality: not just dehydrated tissues, but tissues that experience new emotions and temperaments, producing poetry, melancholy, distance, and closeness—fragile yet precious, like crystal, unique.
Aging brings the vision of one’s transparent body floating in life, a vision that can rest upon our knowledge of the world, allowing a time of self-indulgence and self-satisfaction, remaining distant and free from the density and speed of matter and the materiality of Earth’s gravity.
Parallel to the text runs a linear installation of 14 photographs, arranged in two different sequences. One group of books contains one sequence, the other group the alternate sequence. The photographic material is the same for all books, presenting the visual order of two rhythmical and temporal series that recall two distinct moments in the life of the human body according to experience: the moment of conception and the extrasystole of the heartbeat.
The book covers are handcrafted in acrylic—one series in gold, the other in white. Each cover is unique, just as the body is constantly changing.
